To honour the leaders of the Confederacy, an idea of a huge carving was mooted as early as 1909. In 1972 this memorable carving out of the granite on the side of Stone Mountain, Georgia was officially declared complete. It towers 400 feet above the ground, measures 90 x 190 feet & is recessed 42 ft into the mountain. It now forms the backdrop to a spectacular laser & music show at the park.
